The Torah is the series of stories, laws, history, and lessons that we received from our greatest teacher and which represents the core truths of reality. But more importantly, the Torah represents a binding force that promotes equity and support across the Jewish people. By design, it was written and studied to be the great unifier of all our earned and inherited truth and wisdom - all made accessible through narrative, practice, and law for every Jew regardless of where they stand. A most cherished inheritance and birthright. Our Tree of Life.
We know from tradition, and as written in Mainmondies’ Guide for the Perplexed, that the Torah was written from the ultimate state of enlightenment and contains layers of meanings to guide each one studying it at the level of their comprehension. From the downtrodden needing, the comfort of its ancient words of love and righteousness to the mystic seeking the mysteries of life, the Torah contains the map for our world, the key to our heart and mind, and the guide for building a harmonious life.
Today we’ve been blessed with an abundance of explanations and interpretations. From the rational lens of its practical guide to the esoteric teachings of Kaballah and Chassidut inspired by those who’ve sacrificed themselves to bring joy and love to their communities through complete dedication to their fellow Jew.
The Torah is our Tree of Life for those who hold on to it. It ensures the survival, both physical and spiritual, of the vision, commitment, and aspirations of our righteous ancestors and is part of the process of healing ourselves as a people. Promoting the education and knowledge of this inherited wisdom is a fundamental step to getting back to our full and most truthful selves.
